IAN: April 17, 2026 Interesting instruments [1] ['View Profile', 'Greg Dworkin'] Date: 2026-04-17 Happy Friday! Hopefully everyone is having a good day. One of Bit’s closers is in the hospital, so she closed Thursday and doesn’t know about tonight. The above picture is of the Barky Bark instruments. We are still working the kinks out of posting diaries on the new site, so hopefully this one goes well. Keep your fingers crossed for me! And if you see something weird, let me know. Not having my best week, I’m still doing breathing treatments every 4 hours and trying to rest. Even if that is *really* inconvenient. As you can see by Itzl’s concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you’re not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! Presenting: The Hurdy Gurdy. Here is a smaller one, same instrument, but you can get a better look at it. Here’s one of the home made instruments. It’s called a shovel guitar. On a side note, I’ve noticed one thing, to embed youtube videos after the first one, you have to scroll down in the text window a bit and then click “add content” and put it in there. But it’s really frustrating sometimes to get it to cooperate. The second video is a one string shovel guitar, I would call it closer to a bass, but maybe it’s not quite low enough? I’m not really sure what this one is, something Viking I think? I thought it was cool, definitely an ancient instrument. Here’s a video with many different instruments. I calls them ‘weird’, not all of them are weird. I thought it was fun looking at them and speculating on their origins. I have to wonder if teaching kids piano is this hard, I bet sometimes it feels like it. To me, it’s like piano teacher combined with Occupational Therapist figuring out accommodations. Hopefully this all comes out the way I intended. I thought I’d keep it light, in case.
