Street Prophets Friday: My Last Spring Diary Before The WordPressing of Daily Kos [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2026-04-10 Greetings and welcome to another bit of community-flavored fluff, teased from the burrs and bugs tangled in the gloriousness that is your incomparable host, Marko the Werelynx. I'm kinda looking forward to the new site and kinda dreading it. So much good, so much stupid. I've been romping around the beta site before it vanishes. Tried out making a diary post, played around with embedding stuff and made a few discoveries that nobody involved with the transition seemed to be aware of and I've yet to receive a medal, or even an effective flea and tick collar, for my efforts. I have been managing to surprise myself with my own failures to notice things, which is always entertaining for me if not actually helpful for others. Anyway, I've got another collection of recent Spring photos to share. It was a bit of a toss-up whether I'd be sharing photos of a bunch of sandstone sculptures that I took on a walk around the baroque hospital complex of Kuks or just a general sprinkling of Spring photos and the sprinkling won. Speaking of sprinkling, there was a touch of snow in the air this morning. Time to get the winter coat back out of the closet. Spring is tax season. I had a cloudy day to run around town handing in my three forms: one to the financial office, one to the social office, and one to my health insurance provider. All needed to see my paltry income for the year. We were treated to a concert for strings and chorus in a modest little Hussite church. The conductor brought us the premier of his piece based on the story of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It was modern and therefore a bit dissonant in parts, but pretty good. I believe I heard someone in the audience saying that he's the great-grandson of composer Antonín Dvořák. I came across a film set in #2 Son's neighborhood. They'd blocked off areas for the crew to park in and keep incongruous cars and people out of their shots. A couple of guys were going around with ladders replacing the street signs that they'd taken down earlier from the corners of the buildings. It looked more like they were going to be filming in the little cafe they'd set up in a space in one of the corner buildings. #2 Son and his girlfriend told us that they'd had a bunch of period cars (1960s they thought) parked on the street the day before and showed us a picture they'd taken of a couple actors in some curious costumes that I couldn't place in any era, although they weren't really all that exotic, just odd combinations of layered athletic and casual clothes. I always wonder about what's being filmed when I stumble across a film crew out and about in the streets of Prague. Which is a fairly common occurrence for me. I wouldn't mind being involved in the film industry myself. Always fascinated by the process. I did spend many a year drawing storyboards for advertising agencies, but that sort of work has evaporated in recent years. It was fun to see stuff I'd scribbled, translated into a television commercial. Out in the country, I missed getting a shot of the Roe Deer that ran through the yard later this foggy morning and I didn't manage a shot of the Grey Heron couple in the field the day before, but I did get some nice foggy pictures of the Stork Not exactly sure which type of bird this is, but it's good to see a little someone poking their head out of one of my birdhouses. If it's a Grey Headed Chickadee, then it'd be a first for me and a ridiculous distance from its usual sub-arctic habitat. Looking forward to gaining the ability to have my photos fill the space from margin to margin instead of being squonched into some arbitrary middle area, causing them to lose even more definition in their already squished state after being dropped down to a mere 1200 x 900 pixels and jay-peg compressionificated until they surrender at under 100 kilobytes of information. If nothing else, I've been gentle with the bandwidth all these years. Thanks for stopping by. This is an open thread. Yeah, really open — like, if you were ever going to post links to some bargain deals on rock crushers, this is the space to do that in. Next week it'll be The Wonderful World of WordPress, and all bets are off. Hope to see you there.
