A Rather Interesting Morning! [1]

Well, I had the most interesting morning! Someone was backing my neighbor’s Porsche Sports car out of her garage and it ended up on fire and exploding in my back lawn. It appears that the person backing it out of the garage wasn’t paying attention that the road is only really one lane wide and there is a two foot drop off into my lawn. One has to execute a sharp turn out of my neighbor’s driveway so they don’t end up in my lawn for that very reason.

I heard what sounded like a crash and when I went to investigate there were three guys standing around a car as it began to smoke and catch on fire. Mind you, this is a mere 25 feet from my house and NYS DEC has declared a Burn Ban for the whole state until Mid May due to the wildfire risk. There were lots of leaves and old plantings from last fall that I was just beginning to clean up. Anyway, the car went up fast and I was amazed the person got out so quickly! I watched several explosions occur the went to find the cat to flee the house if it caught on fire. Thank goodness there was no wind today or I would have probably lost my house and been only able to save the cat and leave with the clothes on my back.

Anyway, I called 911 and they told me the Fire Department just up the road a block away, was coming. Tense seconds passed as I waited. When they arrived, they put it out quickly, flooded my lawn and raked the area to prevent flare ups from occurring. It took them several hours to finish up and my road was closed off and the State Road in front of my house was down to one lane.

There was a guy looking really forlorn as he and my neighbor sat on her stone wall. She was talking about selling the car and either that happened or a friend came to get it for the yearly servicing so she could drive it in the summer. I will have to ask her about that. If it was changing hands there are insurance issues with this. I wish I could upload the photos from my phone, but about 12:45, the car was towed from my back lawn with pieces like the fuel tank torn off and other stuff removed by the Fire Department. It is a total wreck and is maybe 10 years old. There is this blackened and muddy area about 20 feet long and 10 feet wide in my back lawn. Well, can’t plant any edibles there!

Thank goodness I didn’t lose my house!
