[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2026-04-09 This morning I saw a headline scroll by in my feed that over 425 million Arizonans have been kicked off of the state food assistance program. I had to pause and think about that. Apparently that’s about a 45% drop in participants since the so called Bill Beautiful Bill went into effect. Here’s a link to one story: ktar.com/… While the unemployment rate has gone up, the recipient numbers have dropped. How does that happen? According to the article the lack of funding at the federal level has meant that the state level agency cannot hire more staff to oversee the program. Less food can be purchased to send to the established food banks. The estimates are that over the next few years the rate could drop another 50% or more. That’s a lot of people going hungry. So what can we do? Be sure your school districts are offering free lunch, even better, free breakfast and lunch. You can make regular monthly donations to your local food banks. Perhaps you can volunteer at your local food bank if you can’t afford to donate money. Even better, you can call your state and federal elected representatives and tell them that you want food assistance restored. It’s been proven that crime goes up when hunger and lack of education and lack of decent, secure housing goes up. If we as a community want a safer neighborhood, let’s make sure our neighbors aren’t desperate for something to eat or a place to lay their head or the chance to secure a good paying job. Finally, look at those representative’s voting record. Did they vote to take away people’s food? Time to choose someone else to represent you. Welcome to the resistance. Want to help more? Getting out the vote takes money. secure.actblue.com/...Donate here [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2026/4/9/2377137/-It-s-a-Puzzle?pm_campaign=front_page&pm_source=latest_community&pm_medium=web Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
