One of the reasons, it is reported, for the friction between Anthropic and Hegseth’s Department of War Talk grew out of the use of Claude, Antropic’s AI model, in the operation to take out Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.

The Pentagon wanted to take the gloves off, employ AI without ethical or moral guardrails. Anthropic said no.

Regardless, Claude is being relied upon in Iran war planning and conduct of operations.

The President is increasingly warning that he will bomb Iran “back to the Stone Age.” Hegseth despises any ethical limits whatsoever on warmaking. Neither is very bright. They would likely do what the AI model suggests.

And in wargame simulations, AI really likes to employ nukes. "Almost all games saw tactical (battlefield) nuclear weapons deployed," said the chief researcher looking at the wargames.

I think I will look for where Dr. Strangelove might be screening. I hope I am wildly wrong in this line of thinking. But really, would it surprise you all that much that Trump and Hegseth would, after all they’ve done, hesitate to launch a nuclear first strike?
