Top Comments: Missing Submissions Part I: The Stats Edition [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2026-03-31 Everyone knows we are less than a month away (barring unforeseen bugs) from the next version of Daily Kos. Everyone is scrambling around trying to figure out how to get everything they love to stay the same. Hahaha. We all know there will be a sort of repeat of the Great Password Reset from long ago. Because of all the goings on, Top Comments will have some changes as well as brillig told us last night. What you all did not know before last night is besides having the group account, Top Comments has a regular user account. To be fair, none of us knew either. Because people were unaware of this, people sent kosmail submissions to the regular user account which were never seen nor included because no one writing here knew of the account or had access until last week. Tonight's and next weeks diaries will be both an apology to all the submitters and commenters who never got the recognition they deserve and a fun way to transition to the new site. Some of the people featured here may be gone for whatever reason but they all deserve the thanks they never got. If you know someone from these comments or submissions, reach out and say both sorry and thank you from all of us who have worked at Top Comments over the years. We do appreciate all the submissions even if it took 10+ years for you to get recognized. I am beginning with the numbers because I had only one day to put this diary together, and there were 68 different “pieces” of mail. Nearly all of them contained the comment submitted with or without a reason. One person did follow up with a second message when their submission did not appear in that night’s diary. The first submission was on Feb 29, 2012 from Cali Scribe. Cali also submitted a comment on April 2, 2012. Cali never sent anything to the user account again and must have figured out that wasn’t the correct kosmail. The two most recent submissions there were both from John in Denver and both were this month. There a few single submissions from people who appear here enough to make you think they probably clicked something incorrectly. People like RickBoston, Tamar, pat of butter in a sea of grits, DallasDoc, and pucklady, among others. The two users with the most submissions to the user account are Hineoma01 and Audri. Audri submitted 7 comments from Oct 10, 2012 to Aug 23,2023. But Hineoma01 far out paced that with 24 submissions starting on June 5, 2017 through Nov 8, 2022. That’s dedication unless they were also submitting them to the group kosmail when the comments were not appearing in the diaries. Next week, I will put each submission in the diary exactly the way we always do it. I usually copy and paste the exact text people send with their submissions though occasionally i will edit for grammar or clarity and signify that. Should someone not give any text or reason, I typically add my own noting it is from the editor. To give you a taste of the submissions in the account, I will post the first two, the last two, and one from each of our superstar submitters. On 2/29/2012 (Leap Day) Cali Scribe sent in this: In Brit's latest update on the Fall of the House of Murdoch Quicklund has a song (with apologies to Jimmie Thomas [http://en.wikipedia.org/..._(song)]). The second comment submitted on 3/12/2012 came this submission from Mnemosyne: In Jed Lewison's wonderful discussion of how Mitt Romney's campaign swing through places like Mississippi has turned him into one of the good ol' suthrun boys, Meteor Blades bestows upon Willard the ultimate deadly comment -- which in northerly regions might be voiced in more, er, staccato terms. As noted above, the last two submissions both came from John in Denver. The first one is from 3/2 and the final submission is from 3/20. T. Maysie on Superbloom in Death Valley I encouraged the "list" to be expanded as one story or more … (comment by pelagicray) Here is one submission from Audri. On 10/18/2012, we received this comment (without context) by Champurrado who compared walnuts to humans. Finally, we have one submission from Hineoma01, the champ of this kosmailbox. On 7/2/2017, they sent in this thread started by brooklynbadboy, with the text “BBB says it all.” Next week, I will include all the other submissions with links to each comment if they are active. See ya then! Oh, and thanks again to brillig who recuses me so often when I have no inspiration. Somehow, she saves me at the last minute. Diarist reserves all rights to his original writing only.
