A mechanical keyboard, plain yoghurt, and a 7am start [1] ['Ellsworth Toohey'] Date: 2026-08-13 Keith Kahn-Harris is a sociologist in London who writes about heavy metal and about Jewish communities. His ninth book, The Beautiful Death of Ozzy Osbourne: How Metal Teaches Us To Live, came out in June 2026. He types on a Wobkey Rainy 75 mechanical keyboard, which he replaced the stock switches on with Gateron Oil Kings. "I never knew that typing could be a gorgeous, synaesthetic experience; a feat for the ears and the hands," Kahn-Harris wrote in the Cool Tools newsletter What's in my NOW? Kahn-Harris takes the weight-loss drug Mounjaro, and he said one of its unexpected effects is that he sleeps well and wakes early. He is often at his desk at 7am. "The world is quieter then, and there is space to think and to create," he wrote. Mounjaro also gives him stomach bloating and discomfort. Plain yogurt is his remedy, and he said it makes up the bulk of his diet on some days. Kahn-Harris moved his notes out of Evernote a few months ago and now keeps them in Obsidian, which he uses for note-taking, web clipping, and a personal knowledge base. He said the learning curve was steep and the customization options can be overwhelming. Obsidian stores his notes as Markdown files on his own computer. Evernote kept them in a proprietary format.
