Road sign reprogrammed to protest ICE killings [1] ['Rob Beschizza'] Date: 2026-07-28 An electronic road sign in Portland, Maine, was reprogrammed Monday to show the message "NO MORE ICE KILLINGS." Staff at WGMA write that the sign was on Brighton Avenue there and belongs to a local sand and gravel company. Roadsign sign text is often easy to edit. For convenience, operators turn off passwords or leave them at factory defaults, so headlines stating they were "hacked" may mean "someone walked up to it and keyed in a new message." Google will not only give you the password but provide detailed instructions on obtaining physical access. As part of President Trump's immigration crackdown, officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement have shot dead at least 11 people in street killings, with dozens more dead in custody. On July 13, ICE agent David Brouillette shot and killed 25-year-old Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero during an operation in Biddeford, Maine; Brouillette has a history of violent behavior and mental health problems. The ACLU of Maine offers advice on dealing with the agents. You have the right not to open the door to your home, unless the agent has a signed judicial warrant. An administrative warrant does not grant ICE permission to enter or search your house. You have the right to ask an ICE officer, "Am I free to leave?" You have the right not to answer immigration officers' questions and to tell an immigration officer, "I choose not to say anything." Even if you exercise your rights, ICE may still detain you. If ICE tries to detain you, do your best to stay calm. Do not run away and do not resist.
