Iran has hacked Kash Patel's personal email [1]

Iran can't match the US in the air or at sea, so it's been fighting Trump's campaign with asymmetric tools — bombing neutral countries to discourage them from hosting American operations, threatening terrorist attacks on Western tourist spots, and choking shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz until gas prices hurt enough to make the war politically toxic. But of all the unconventional weapons Iran has deployed, hacking the FBI director's personal email might be the funniest.

The Iran-linked Handala Hack Team claims to have breached Kash Patel's personal Gmail, according to CyberNews. This came days after the FBI seized Handala's website infrastructure and announced a $10 million bounty on its members. Their response: posting images from Patel's sent folder — cigar photos, selfies — along with the taunt, "We decided to respond to this ridiculous show in a way that will be remembered forever." The Justice Department has confirmed the hack.

The released images are goofy, not damning. But it's what hasn't been released that matters. Personal email accounts have ended political careers before. I'm sure Kash would never have used a personal Gmail to discuss sensitive FBI business. That'd be massively irresponsible — more the sort of thing you'd expect from the Secretary of Defense in a Telegram chat.

If there's anything spicy in those emails, we'll be hearing about it soon. It's been a rough year for freedom, democracy, and anyone with half a brain. But maybe Kash Patel losing sleep over what might surface will give us something to smile about as we head into April.
