Each slice of this bread loaf reveals a hidden creature inside [1] [] Date: 2026-03-21 Japanese bread artist konel_bread bakes loaves with colorful characters embedded all the way through the dough. Cut a slice and a tiny creature stares back at you — same face, every cut, from end to end. From the outside, the loaf looks like an ordinary round of bread. The surprise only appears when the knife goes through. The technique works like millefiori glass or Japanese candy art: the design is built into the cross-section of the loaf before baking, using layers of colored dough assembled around a central image. Because the pattern runs the full length of the loaf, it repeats with each slice. The precision required is considerable — every layer has to hold its shape through proofing and baking without bleeding into the surrounding dough. Konel_bread's Instagram is full of loaves hiding frogs, bears, cats, flowers, and other characters. Some are simple single-color designs; others use four or five colors to create detailed faces with eyes, mouths, and rosy cheeks. The bread is real and edible — not just a sculptural exercise. Watch the video to see the surprise when the loaf gets sliced open.
