Gameboy-like gadget with a rotating display [1] ['Rob Beschizza'] Date: 2026-03-19 Ambernic makes cute portable retrogaming handhelds, and its latest design is turning heads. That is because it has a turning screen. A video posted to Reddit's SBCGaming boad by Quinki001 shows leaked footage of the device. It has the Ambernic logo, and has a 1:1 rotating display that closes to form a square and opens to reveal standard game controls. I like that ANBERNIC are trying something different here, similar to what they did with the ANBERNIC Slide and I can imagine some handheld enthusiasts will like this in their collection. It's certainly going to focus on smaller forms of emulation, for example, GAME BOY, Game Gear, and Neo Geo etc. Square displays are nice for GameBoy Advance and old vertical arcade shmups, if not much else. It reminded Damien McFerran of the brief and glorious pre-iPhone age of weird cellphones. He writes: "Remember when everyone phone was different?" We had flip phones, slider phones, phones that rotated – you name it, somebody probably tried to make it a success in phone form. Now, in 2026, it would seem that emulation handheld maker Anbernic has been struck by the same feeling of experimentation, if a new leak is anything to go by.
