[1] ['Rob Beschizza'] Date: 2026-02-10 Florida man Pascual Santana, 79, was arrested Friday and charged with armed assault after threatening a Walmart worker with a gun from the seat of his mobility scooter. Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Department told media that Santana had called the woman "derogatory names" aggressively before revealing the handgun and asking "are you scared now?" Santana's arrest record, posted to DocumentCloud, describes an unpleasant incident in the Hialeah Supercenter's jewelry section last November. The defendant approached the victim, who is an employee at Walmart, on a motorized scooter and asked to see several different pieces of jewelry. The defendant became upset because he felt that the victim was not providing good service to him. When the defendant became upset, he started to speak aggressively to the victim and began to call her derogatory names. The victim explained to the defendant that store policy allows her to show only one piece of jewelry at a time. The defendant did not agree with the victim's response and told her that she had a bad attitude and needed to fix it. The victim asked the defendant which piece of jewelry he would like to view, and he advised her that he wanted to see multiple pieces at the same time. The victim told the defendant a second time that she could not do that per store policy. After the victim explained for a second time that she was unable to show multiple pieces of jewelry at the same time, the defendant opened his shirt, revealing a firearm in his waistband, showed it to the victim, and stated, "Are you scared now?" The victim, in fear for her safety, backed up and called for store security, advising them of what had occurred. On today's date [Feb 6, 2026], the defendant was located and taken into custody at his residence. The defendant was transported to the Northwest District Station for a formal interview. The defendant was read Miranda, advised that he clearly understood his rights, and agreed to speak with me about the incident. The defendant denied that the individual in Walmart on video the day of the incident was him, though video surveillance shows him during the incident in the area the victim advised the incident occurred. Minutes into the interview, the defendant requested to have an attorney present. The interview was immediately concluded. The defendant was placed under arrest, charged accordingly, and transported to TGK without incident.
