NYT finds 38,000+ Trump references in released Epstein documents [1] ['Ellsworth Toohey'] Date: 2026-02-02 The New York Times used a proprietary search tool to find more than 5,300 files containing over 38,000 references to Trump, his wife, Mar-a-Lago, and related terms in the Epstein documents released Friday. The files include unverified tips submitted to the FBI — some accusing Trump and Epstein of sexual abuse — as well as interview notes where victims describe interactions with Trump. They confirm the two men's relationship continued longer than Trump has admitted. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said on CNN that the Justice Department looked into the allegations against Trump but "did not find credible information to merit further investigation." Trump claimed Saturday that the files "absolved me." But the Times found documents showing the Trump administration's sensitivity about his inclusion: in one file, Trump's face was covered with a black redaction box. In December, the DOJ posted and then removed a photo showing Trump visible inside a drawer at Epstein's mansion. A 2002 email from someone named "Melania" to Ghislaine Maxwell praises a New York magazine profile of Epstein that included Trump calling Epstein "a terrific guy" who "likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side." Maxwell replied months later: "Sweat pea — thanks for your message." A 2011 email shows Epstein wanted to contact Trump about Virginia Giuffre, who said she was lured into Epstein's orbit while working at Mar-a-Lago.
