Jan 6 pipe bomb suspect arrested [1] ['Rob Beschizza'] Date: 2025-12-04 Hours before Trump supporters sacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan 6, 2021, someone placed pipe bombs outside Republican and Democrat party headquarters. They didn't go off, and news of the failed attack was buried on a busy day. The FBI finally took a suspect into custody: one Brian Cole, identified nearly five years later and charged with terror offenses. Msnow's Ken Dilanian, posting on social media: In a stunning break in one of the FBI's most high-profile unsolved cases, agents arrested a suspect Thursday morning who investigators believe placed pipe bombs outside Republican and Democratic headquarters in the hours before the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot, four people with knowledge of the development told MS NOW. The suspect has been charged with placing the bombs, which did not detonate. The allegations, if proven, would end a longstanding mystery that sparked a multitude of conspiracy theories over who planted the pipe bombs before a mob of pro-Trump supporters stormed the Capitol aiming to stop Joe Biden from being installed as president. Authorities have not yet determined a motive, a law enforcement official said. But the suspect has been linked to statements in support of anarchist ideology, said two people briefed on the arrest. CNBC News points out a problem relayed to it by anonymous sources: the identification is based on material gathered years ago, meaning "the suspect could feasibly have been arrested years earlier." The pressure to make an arrest is on because Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard falsely identified a federal security officer as the bomber in a memo and that person's name was leaked to right-wing media. A short time after the unfinished memo began to circulate, the conservative news outlet, Blaze News, published details similar to those in the draft, including the woman's full name. The Nov. 8 Blaze News article claimed that it had pinpointed the woman after a review of video evidence and "gait analysis" software matched her walking pattern to the gait of a person shown in surveillance footage, who authorities suspect planted bombs outside the party offices on Jan. 5, 2021. Blaze News said its work had been "confirmed by several intelligence sources." The woman was immediately cleared, in the event, as there was "video of her playing with her puppies at the time the devices were placed."
