A database of smart lighting options [1]

The Smart Light Database tracks the options and makes it easy to sort products by wattage, color rendering index, temperature, brightness and other factors of aesthetic, thereapeutic or professional relevance. It was recently updated to include lightbulbs. Also reviewed are light therapy glasses and SAD lamps.

We personally test and review the best light and sleep products, so you don't waste time (or money) on stuff that doesn't work.

I've been looking for something nice to make my gloomy office good for illustration work, and I learned that Ikea Tradfri lightbulbs have outstanding color rendering index (notwithstanding that measure's shortcomings) and the non-smart GE Sun Filled ones are great too. Online, Sunsy Shines at Amazon. Of cheap models, Philips Ultra Definition Daylight were almost as good.

I see those light therapy boxes are pretty expensive. I found that cheap floodlights work just as well. The downside is that they're not designed for your desktop: they don't have on-off switches, don't have much diffusion, don't work with dimmers, and they get hot.
