Editorial Internship Job at The Conversation AU/NZ in Melbourne, Australia [1] [] Date: 2025-10 Posted 20 October, 2025 The Conversation AU Melbourne VIC, Australia The Conversation’s editorial internship is a paid, intensive two-week program which gives up to six students from member universities the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, learn from working editors and be mentored in our newsroom. About the internship Interns divide their time between a curated program of tutorials on topics such as editing, storytelling, headline writing and data journalism, and working within a news section. They work closely with editors to commission, edit, fact-check and develop articles – written by academic experts – to be published on The Conversation. The internship is suited to final year journalism or media students or recent graduates seeking industry experience. It is an active internship. Initiative and motivation are determinants of success. Logistics Our structured program runs for two weeks during February 2026. This role is paid at cadetship rates for the duration of the program. Internships are located at The Conversation's newsroom in Melbourne (but can be remote, if circumstances require). The Conversation is a not-for-profit organisation and our internships meet Fair Work Australia Guidelines (link https://www.fairwork.gov.au/pay/unpaid-work/work-experience-and-internships). We’d like you to have: A keen interest and understanding of the media and public affairs, and in particular the section you would like to work on – either Arts + Culture, Politics, Health, Education, Environment + Energy, Science + Technology, Book + Ideas A strong news sense and good editorial judgement News writing skills Some experience in social media (personal accounts are fine), including understanding its role in engaging readers The willingness to learn and be open to new ideas and feedback Ideas for articles or projects you’d like to work on during your internship The ability to work to a daily deadline and manage multiple tasks as part of a team Professionalism, care and attention to detail.
