Salary range: $70k NZD pro-rata

Hours: part-time, 20 hours per week (initially 8am - 12pm NZST, Monday - Friday)

Location: Must be based in New Zealand



Purpose of the Role:

The Conversation is looking for a Newsletter Producer based in New Zealand to join our team. Our unique publishing model pairs professional editors with academics to better inform public discourse. Editors work with academics to find out about the latest research and help translate their ideas into plain language articles aimed at a wide audience.

The Newsletter Producer role suits an early career journalist. They will work with the Digital Storytelling Editor and editorial team to compile and send our newsletters and adapt our stories for social media audiences across a range of platforms, among other duties.

The Conversation’s mission is to share quality information with the widest possible audience. That means reaching audiences where they are spending their time and presenting information in clear and compelling ways. Our newsletters and social media channels are essential to the distribution of our articles, plus they grow our audiences, scale our impact and build community.



The right candidate will have a high level of attention to detail and to think creatively about storytelling. A degree or work experience in journalism will be highly valued. The Conversation is a trusted journalism brand and the Newsletter Producer will need to protect its hard-won credibility. They must be thoughtful, calm, methodical, rigorous and possess a deep commitment to professional impartiality and high ethical standards.

Key Selection Criteria:

● Journalism experience or training

● Digital literacy

● Creativity and the ability to generate compelling ideas and copy

Desired:

● Social media experience

● Experience/familiarity with video and/or audio production

● Familiarity with production technologies such as Canva, Datawrapper, Adobe Suite
