Join us for a fascinating evening with Carles Baiges, one of the most innovative architects in Europe. Carles is a member of Lacol, a cooperative which is revolutionalizing the way residential building is conceived by proposing a radical non-speculative model. In La Borda, a housing project in Barcelona, Lacol have realized much of their vision and won numerous international prizes. 'La Borda is proof that another way is possible; where disempowered communities can be galvanised, that land deemed out of reach can be secured, and that co-operation by all at the most fundamental levels can – when guided by architects – realise great design.' – The RIBA Journal (London) Carles Baiges Camprubí is an architect from ETSAB-UPC and has a master's degree in Urban Sociology from Universiteit van Amsterdam. Carles teaches in various international programs in Barcelona (UAB, CEA, and University of California) and has been a visiting professor at the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape at the University of Calgary. He is one of the founding members of the cooperative of architects Lacol and member of La Borda cooperative housing. Lacol has been awarded with several recognitions, including the Emerging category of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Awards 2022, and has been selected in the biennials of architecture in Venice (2016, 2021), Buenos Aires (2017) and San Sebastián (2019). La Borda has also won prizes from the European Responsible Housing Awards and the World Habitat Award.
