The focus of each PhD will be shaped by the candidate in consultation with their supervisor team, but could include a variety of topics relevant to Which Way? including: Co-design and implementation of a tobacco intervention Health service re-design Health economics Aboriginal community governance and data sovereignty Healthcare worker training and workforce development The ideal applicant will have training in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies, behavioural science, health behaviour, epidemiology, sociology, social work, nursing or other allied health or medical professions. The Which Way? project is an Indigenous-led and community embedded project that will co-design, implement and evaluate a group-based model of care to support Aboriginal mothers to be smoke-free. This project builds on our successful earlier work, which highlighted the importance of taking a client-centred, culturally responsive approach to inform meaningful smoking cessation support strategies. Which Way? has been funded by the Medical Research Future Fund Preventive and Public Health Research Initiative from 2023-2026. Scholarship Package includes: $50,000 per annum scholarship for 4 years A full-time tuition fee scholarship for 4 years $5,000 per annum to assist with project costs and professional development. Up to $1,500 relocation allowance if required. Up to one day per week Research Assistant work will also be available to the student to supplement their living allowance, if desired. Timeline: Start dates are flexible and by negotiation, however the successful candidate will need to commence their candidature in 2023. Part-time enrolment is possible subject to negotiation. Location: Our team is based on Callaghan Campus at the University of Newcastle. Some onsite work will be required, however flexible working arrangements are available subject to negotiation.
