About Us The Indo-Pacific Research Centre (IPRC) engages with significant regional challenges of our century: socio-economic development, human security, and geo-strategic governance. Launched in 2023, our new Centre builds upon the outstanding research foundations of Murdoch University, combining the Asia Research Centre’s international reputation for high-impact research and HDR training, the expertise of the Africa Research Group and Centre for Responsible Citizenship and Sustainability. The IPRC’s objectives and research excellence respond to increasing demand by governments and other agencies—including the EU, USAID, and DFAT—for improved understandings of the Indo-Pacific region. The Role The Director provides intellectual, operational, and administrative leadership of the Indo-Pacific Research Centre. The successful candidate will develop and implement strategic plans to support the Centre’s research excellence and promote a culture of innovation and collaboration. They will also work collaboratively with others to conduct high-quality research, identify opportunities for funding, lead and mentor others, engage in research-led training opportunities, strategically contribute to undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching, and represent and promote the Centre within the University and to industry and other stakeholders. Established expertise in development, security and/or governance of the Indo-Pacific region with a sustained and distinguished track record of research accomplishments, a substantial publication record, successful grant applications, engagement with government and industry, and/or supervision of PhD candidates. Experience in leading complex research teams. International recognition for innovative and distinguished contributions to your field of research and/or practice. Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans, and the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems. Outstanding communication skills. Ability to work within tight fiscal contexts and a successful track record in raising funds through grant writing, commissioned work, and/or strategic partnerships. A thorough understanding of relevant policies, regulations, ethical standards, and integrity issues related to research in the higher education sector and will be able to ensure compliance with these in the Centre’s research activities.
