REACH and Trailblazer are a collaborative research endeavour on an unprecedented scale, offering the exciting opportunity to engender profound change not just in the way Deakin interacts with industry and government, but in its culture of research innovation, translation and commercialisation. REACH is seeking to enable and accelerate research commercialisation and programs to support upscaled advanced manufacturing in recycling and clean energy technologies. The Executive Director will provide strategic and operational leadership to help realise the vision of REACH, establishing its operations and processes and then delivering on the Trailblazer milestones while liaising between internal and external stakeholders such as partner companies, universities, TAFE and CSIRO. The person will drive effectiveness in research excellence and innovation translation to deliver real-world impacts in the circular economy. Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and the REACH Governing Board with reference to REACH’s Charter and Governance Rules, the Executive Director will be an experienced operational leader who brings commercial acumen, a passion for research and an understanding of university processes and culture. Leading the REACH business Unit the role has responsibility for the $380 million program over 4 years and will be pivotal in working within Deakin and with partners to deliver the program objectives including cultural change and the creation of an Australian exemplar for successful translation of research to commercialisation.
