About the Department of Clinical Pathology http://medicine.unimelb.edu.au/school-structure/clinical-pathology The Department of Clinical Pathology focuses on graduate learning and teaching, research and engagement in the clinical discipline of pathology. The Department is located at the Parkville campus with offices in the state of the art Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) building. The Department collaborates broadly with other Departments, Centres, Schools and Faculties of the University of Melbourne, health services and medical research institutes to generate new knowledge in cancer research to improve the outcomes of patients. About the Role We seek a well-organised and talented project coordinator to assist in a clinical genomics study on Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) research. This study aims to provide diagnostic and actionable research reports on patient biopsies in a timely manner and to return genomics reports to treating oncologists and pathologists in order to step-change patient outcomes. This role will be part of a larger study team and will support weekly operations, logistics, and communication between team members as well as biospecimen processing and maintenance of research data into databases. In a typical week at work, you may: Assist with project management duties Communicate with key stakeholders for logistics of sample acquisition and delivery of molecular testing (medical oncology fellow, molecular testing labs, project co-ordinators) Attend operational meetings Contribute to the maintenance of a Microsoft Access and RedCap project databases as well Freezer Pro for -800C freezers and LN tanks About You You will be a natural problem solver, with the ability to deliver creative solutions to the efficient, effective, and collaborative running of the laboratory. You will be able to work both independently and as part of a team to achieve your goals. You will have highly developed skills in time management, setting priorities, planning and organising your own work. Ideally, you will further have: Bachelor of science or equivalent tertiary degree Experience in the processing and banking of human blood and tissue samples Experience in a range of basic molecular methods including nucleic acid extraction High level of proficiency in the use of standard application software such as the Microsoft Office suite, Freezer Pro, ChemAlert and UoM systems.
