As the Learning and Academic Skills (LAS) Advisor, you will play a crucial role in the success of Swinburne students. You will be responsible for supporting the development of student language, literacy, numeracy, basic computer skills, learning and/or academic skills. This will be achieved through the provision of tailored advice, activities and resources embedded within the curriculum, as well as individual consultations and workshops. The role is nested within a wide range of international student support activities to be undertaken across Swinburne University in 2022 with funding from the Victorian Government’s International Education Resilience Fund. The role is is developmental rather than remedial, and integral to the ongoing process of improving student satisfaction and success in their study. Reporting to the Team Leader, Learning and Academic Skills and in collaboration with academic, teaching and professional staff across the University, you will provide advice and expertise on approaches to embed academic literacy development into the curriculum which enables all students to achieve their best. LAS services are provided across the University's Hawthorn, Croydon and Wantirna campuses and online. The incumbent would ordinarily have a home campus but must be willing to travel between campuses and able to work at a range of locations, including from home. About you To be suitable for the role, you will have: Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent AQF5 level (or above) Qualification in Education/TESOL Experience in designing, developing and delivering academic support programs and resources for a diverse range of student cohorts and in different modes of delivery (face-to-face, online, blended) in a tertiary environment. Demonstrated high standard of interpersonal communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with university colleagues in a multi-disciplinary environment. Experience using online teaching platforms and software to create interactive and engaging learning experiences, and using narrated PowerPoint, Camtasia or other relevant software to create sophisticated and accessible self-access teaching resources.
