NATO boosts capability on Northern Flank with major Anti-Submarine Warfare exercise [1]

NATO-led Exercise Dynamic Mongoose is a live exercise (LIVEX) held annually in the High North. This year it will test the Alliance again with complex scenarios as units practice their response to sub-surface threats in the demanding environment of the Norwegian Sea.



These exercises enable our Allies and teams to sharpen their skills as well as work on new tactics while enhancing interoperability, coordination, and teamwork

The exercise will not only help forces work together effectively as an Alliance, but also develop better interoperability in the ASW domain. The exercise is the sister event of Dynamic Manta where last February, ships, submarines, aircraft, and personnel from nine Allied nations converged in the Central Mediterranean Sea for similar anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare training.

Twelve Allied nations are set to take a part in a large-scale Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) exercise in the North Atlantic starting April 24.

“These exercises enable our Allies and teams to sharpen their skills as well as work on new tactics while enhancing interoperability, coordination, and teamwork,” said Commander, Submarines NATO U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Stephen Mack.

Submarines from four Allied nations will practice hunting and being hunted throughout the 11-day exercise.

Participants will perform a series of challenging tasks including up to 15 surface ships from 10 Allied nations. Maritime Patrol Aircraft from seven Allied nations will provide support from the air.

Participating units will sharpen their ASW and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASUW) skills in the seas between Norway, the Faroe Islands, and Iceland while also using air bases across the region.
