Multinational aerial drills in demonstrate NATO readiness [1] [] Date: 2022-07 This one-day activity involves more than 20 Allied fighter, tanker and early warning aircraft from seven Allied countries as well as ground based air defence systems and tactical air controllers. The aim of this live-fly event is to demonstrate NATO's readiness to plan, coordinate and execute a complex, multinational mission to shield the Alliance The aim of this live-fly event is to demonstrate NATO's readiness to plan, coordinate and execute a complex, multinational mission to shield the Alliance from any threat or potential attack. As part of the training, NATO forces will simulate disabling an adversary's air defences. The event will be conducted in compliance with international laws and standards. No live weapons will be used. Romanian F-16 fighters will join other Allied aircraft in the air shielding event over Romania. On the ground, the French Air and Space Force MAMBA ground-based air defence system will simulate the defence against the fighters as part of the training scenario. In response to Russia's war against Ukraine, NATO has significantly strengthened its defence and deterrence, including by increasing our presence in the Eastern part of our Alliance, with more troops, higher readiness and more aircraft on patrol.
