Stop using GOP talking points [1] ['Greg Dworkin', 'Chloris Creator', 'Franks Human'] Date: 2026-09-01 Kos is correct to identify the sadly usual infighting in DSA that replicates the history of postwar Democratic parties. However, having just watched several sequences where Rahm Emanuel attacked progressives like AOC, we need to address centrist foolishness. It’s policies, not migrants. Emanuel parroted a GOPhascist ‘Open Borders’ talking point on MS Now, we should note how problematic the Democratic party has become with crucial elections looming. Odd is how he treats different audiences for this framing message and in this case to drive back to the center by demonizing one albeit small, but growing movement. While that kind of tacit support for reactionary thinking happens in trashing the DSA, the ankle monitors and shock gloves proliferate. Immigration reform must happen but without giving aid and comfort to RWNJ misinformation. Even worse is silencing important positions in the name of ‘moderation’ that so easily got out of control once Trump came back. That alone tells you how fragile democratic institutions can become when the worst of us gain back power. Trashing the left takes an energy better spent on more fully criticizing a GOP that needs to be swept out of office at every level. No comment on how problematic “electability” can be when centrists stand pat or worse, vilify positions that many of us believe but know at this moment in history are nearly impossible to implement. There are possible policies, for example, forcing austerity on the MIC at an annual 2-5% reduction in its budget for an entire decade, abolishing private prisons as actual criminal justice reform for a similar decade, supporting those things like USAID trashed by those DOGE kids that have already made the case for crimes against humanity. Pernicious neoliberalism can only end with disciplined activism of a type not practiced by centrists who apparently cannot resist the expansion of detention centers (concentration camps). A centrist justice system has still to indict some ICE killers. It is right in the centrist wheelhouse to stop third country deportations immediately. And even more ridiculous is any Democrat being against M4A, which yes, will change many ancillary things like the insurance industry who will not go bankrupt if they start doing simple alternative markets like insuring all gun ownership like vehicles and eliminating LEO qualified immunity which will accomplish police defunding and concurrently restructure public finance including the foolishness of running education ‘like a business’ (vouchers and charter schools). Centrists failed to prevent the militarization of police. And then there’s obvious stuff like reforming the entire tax system, energy renewables and the power grid, which should trump(sic) the current underregulated data center developments because rural electrification and universal service did succeed in US history. Centrists are more likely to endorse the surveillance state because they have even weaker positions on individual privacy etc. They should have stopped DOGE in its tracks. Only ‘quislings’ red bait the DSA no differently than GOPhascists. Worse are those whose false consciousness was willing to let the anti-DEI stalking horse undermine their sense of a social justice that started with kettling Affirmative Action since Reagan. If you’re still hating on the DSA’s “place” on the ballot, think of them like the ACLU, the Masons, or the Amish. The Open Borders trope: “They believe in defunding the police, letting prisoners out of prisons, opening the borders, eliminating the Pentagon,” former Barack Obama advisor and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said on Fox News We grow tired of such triangulating.
