Kitchen Table Kibitzing 8/25/2026: Musical Fruit [1] ['Belinda Ridgewood', 'Thom Hartmann', 'News Corpse'] Date: 2026-08-25 Good evening, Kibitzers! I know your mind went to beans when you saw that title, because here at KTK, we have unaccountably become the Bean People. But no, that’s not what I’m getting at. In last Thursday’s KTK, kimoconnor shared a picture of a plant in her yard she characterized as a “strawberry volunteer”, and it didn’t take long for the subject of band names to intrude into that nice garden thread. So later, I thought, hmm, there are certainly other bands with fruit-related names — I wonder if I can think of enough for a diary? And I could! First, the OG for this concept: Strawberry Alarm Clock: Incense and Peppermints (unidentified TV appearance, 1967). ❧ [2:58] The Raspberries: Go All the Way (Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert, 1973). ❧ [3:19] Bananarama: Venus (British TV show Top of the Pops, 1986). ❧ [3:21] Moby Grape: Omaha (The Mike Douglas Show, 1968). (No, Mike Douglas, it is not “The Moby Grapes”.) ❧ [2:51] The Lemon Pipers: Green Tambourine /Rice Is Nice (The Mike Douglas Show, 1968; second song coda by Ann Miller got up as a “go-go girl”, for some reason). ❧ [7:30] The Electric Prunes: I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night (French TV show Bouton Rouge, 1967). ❧ [3:26] Wild Cherry: Play That Funky Music (The Midnight Special, 1976). ❧ [5:15] The Cranberries: Dreams (Woodstock ’94, Saugerties NY, August 1994). ❧ [4:44] Tangerine Dream: Ricochet (Part One) (BBC broadcast from Coventry Cathedral, Coventry UK, 1975). ❧ [14:37] Kid Creole and the Coconuts: Stool Pigeon (German TV show Rockpalast, October 1982). ❧ [8:08] Peaches and Herb: Reunited (The Midnight Special, 1978). ❧ [6:26] Blind Melon: No Rain (MTV’s Alternative Nation, 1993) ❧ [3:55] Chuck Berry: Johnny B. Goode (unidentified TV performance, 1958). ❧ [3:04] Not a fruit-related song: If you haven’t heard that Dolly Parton walked on today, I’m sorry to have to tell you. Her family shared the message below. Like Jimmy Carter, she understood the teachings of her faith and did her best to live them. May she rest well. Dolly songs in the thread would be most appropriate. (Fruit songs are fine too!)
