Top Comments: Scheduling Exercise Edition [1] ['Meteor Blades', 'Wafflehacker Aka Joshhacks', 'Greg Dworkin'] Date: 2026-08-03 I’ve taken an in person yoga class for as long as I can remember. For the past seven years, it’s been with a woman who goes to my church, and who has a variety of different-themed weekly classes. Every Wednesday morning I attend a hatha yoga class for those of us who can no longer bend and twist ourselves into pretzels or easily get up and down off the floor for sun salutations. We use props, chairs, and have a fantastic time promoting strength and balance in our bodies. September thru June it’s a weekly class. During July and most of August, there is no in person class but there is an online ‘on demand’ video library and a monthly program of themed sessions. More on those in a minute. The first week in August, however… it’s Yoga Camp!! My instructor runs two sessions (different mobility levels) one hour daily for four days, and today was day one! I had a great practice, learned that the simplest of poses can be a sweat-inducing strength workout if done slowly enough, and I can’t wait to be back on the mat tomorrow. Back to that July month where I had at my disposal 30 sessions and all I had to do was turn on my laptop and follow the guidance. Did I do this? ::looks around guiltily:: No, no I did not. I got a couple of mini-workouts in but I did not use the fantastic resource at my disposal. Every morning I said I would, then suddenly it was 8pm and I was tired. “Tomorrow” I’d say. In addition to my yoga practice, I also have a gym membership with Mr. Brillig. We go 3-4 times a week either for cardio, or for training with their one-on-one trainer. We’re both dedicated to these sessions. But for the past two weeks our gym was closed for a much-needed renovation, and it reopens tomorrow. Ask me how many strength sessions I did at home with the weights my son left here, the resistance bands, or any other material we have. If you said fewer than two, you’re correct. And I’m really upset with myself for not following through on what’s really been helping me physically and mentally. My workouts help me manage stress, and the newly incorporated focus on strength training and weight-bearing exercise are to stave off the continued bone loss my osteopenia diagnosis last fall portends. I know what not doing the work means for my future, and yet I didn’t do it. What I realized today as I left my planned yoga camp class is that in order to make my physical fitness a priority I have to schedule working out. Saying “I have a busy morning but I’ll get to it later” does. not. work. So after this week, there will be an hour on my calendar every day or every other day with “yoga” or “cardio” or “weights” on it. Because if it’s on the calendar, I’ll do it. How about you? Do you have a fitness routine, and if so, how do you manage to do it regularly? Have tips or tricks or a way to make sure it gets done? I’d love to know your secret!! After our Tops, of course! (I hope to have a beta version of a new Top Mojo out to our writers this week, if my schedule permits. We haven’t forgotten Top Mojo!) brillig Here at Top Comments we strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site’s best, funniest, most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! Iʼm grateful for the expertise in this reply as OceanDiver supports the author in an observation about ʼkiller whalesʼ. I knew that the transient orca prey on seals, so this explanation of why seals keep to shallow bays is great to know. “Biggs orcas will not come into really shallow water. Twenty feet is about the minimum in sloping bays” From A Pagan in Arizona: From Richardeslc: [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2026/8/3/800079370/community/top-comments-scheduling-exercise-edition/ Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
