Kitchen Table Kibitzing 6/2/2026: Colors [1] ['Belinda Ridgewood', 'Thom Hartmann', 'Dan Bacher', 'Chitown Kev'] Date: 2026-06-02 Good evening, Kibitzers! In theory, I have just returned home this afternoon sometime, but I am not counting on my ability to form coherent sentences at that time (to the extent I ever do). So this is something just shy of an open thread, that I am assembling and queuing before I leave. I’ve had these lovely videos on hold for a while now. They’re from a channel called mono Japan. From their channel description: Nothing lasts. Nothing is finished. Nothing is perfect. mono Japan explores the philosophy and aesthetics hidden within Japanese culture — the quiet ideas that have shaped how a nation sees beauty, time, and impermanence. This specific series is described as “a visual archive of Japan’s traditional colors”; the three included here are Red & Earth, Blue & Indigo, and Green & Shadow. I’ve been holding them because their description promises that three more are coming: Purple & Dusk, Brown & Earth, and White & Black, and I was waiting to show all six together. But, other topics seem to have intervened on that channel, so I thought this would be a good time to show the first three. (I myself like these color videos more than their other content because these are free of spoken narration.) Each video presents 36 traditional hues, with their names and an example. The closed captions offer English descriptions that attempt to characterize how each named shade is distinguished. You may like the additional information, or you may prefer to turn them off and just experience the lovely photography with the Japanese color names. Or you may hate the whole thing and just jump to the comments/to the Stones — I don’t judge. I like colors; YMMV.
