Kitchen Table Kibitzing 5/12/2026: Names Plus [1] ['Belinda Ridgewood', 'View Profile', 'Chloris Creator', 'News Corpse', 'Chitown Kev', 'Black Kos'] Date: 2026-05-12 Good evening, Kibitzers! The last Tuesday before the big migration, I posted a diary of songs whose one-word titles were women’s names. I said then that I had a second part in mind, where the titles had women’s names but other words as well, but I wasn’t going to post it until you all could embed YouTubes in the comments and add your own contributions. (At the time, I understood that event to be closer than “probably July”, which is the current estimate.) But the trouble with that is, practically anything I can post would benefit from your additions, and those additions just aren’t that much fun if they’re just links. So this is that second diary, and if we need a part 3 in July, we can do that. Here we go, then! Elton John: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (Cher, nominally a TV special that turned out to be the first episode of her weekly variety show, February 1975) ❧ [5:00] Paul Simon: St. Judy’s Comet (Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles, July 2025) ❧ [3:25] This song, from his 1973 solo album There Goes Rhymin’ Simon, has very rarely been played in concert. I picked this performance, from last year, because the band was particularly good, and special shout-out to his long-long-time music director Mark Stewart, off to the left with the very long white ponytail. That man can play damn near anything. Heart: Dreamboat Annie (DVD Alive in Seattle, recorded at the Paramount Theatre, Seattle, August 2002) ❧ [4:23] The Knack: My Sharona (Carnegie Hall, New York, March 1979) ❧ [5:39] Simon and Garfunkel: For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her (Granada Studios, Manchester, UK, March 1967) ❧ [2:45] (It turns out this is one of those things that can’t be embedded, but I like this song so here’s a link.) The Four Tops: Walk Away Renee (Unidentified performance, ca. 1968) ❧ [2:51] Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Mary Jane’s Last Dance (Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, CA, October 1994) ❧ [5:34] Lead Belly: Good Night Irene (video of Huddie Ledbetter playing, likely at the Connecticut home of friends of the Lomaxes, 1935; audio recorded separately. See the YouTube page for a longer discussion of this clip.) ❧ [2:13] Billy Joel: All for Leyna (The Summit, Houston TX, November 1979) ❧ [4:43] Beyoncé: Proud Mary (Kennedy Center Honors for Tina Turner, December 2005) ❧ [4:42] I apologize for the occasional glimpses of Republicans in this video, but in those days, at least they did not rename the building after themselves, replace the board, give the awards to a bunch of hacks, and generally attempt to prevent art from taking place at that venue at all. Edison Lighthouse: Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) (British TV show Top of the Pops, May 1970) ❧ [2:37] The Beatles: Dizzy Miss Lizzy (A pretty good fan-produced pairing – Audio: Sam Houston Coliseum, Houston; Video: Shea Stadium, New York; both from August 1965) ❧ [2:25] Little Richard: Good Golly Miss Molly (Toronto Rock and Roll Revival, University of Toronto’s Varsity Stadium, September 1969) ❧ [4:53] Crosby, Stills, and Nash: Suite: Judy Blue Eyes (DVD Daylight Again, recorded at Universal Amphitheater, Los Angeles, November 1982) ❧ [9:05] [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2026/5/12/800036827/community/kitchen-table-kibitzing-5-12-2026/ Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
