GFHC: Open Thread [1]

Well, after a long period of dormancy last week’s “test” story generated a bit of interest both from longtime members and some brand new members. One of our new members, Just Saying, has published a couple of very interesting stories on her efforts in tracing her Canadian heritage … and I know a lot of people are looking at Canadians on their trees these days.

While I don’t want to limit genealogy stories to only open thread days, in the past GFHC enthusiasts found the weekly open thread a good time to exclaim about their breakthroughs and get other eyes on problems they were having. I thought I would experiment with resurrecting open threads on Saturdays or Sundays for the next few weeks just to jumpstart the battery/engine. What does everyone think? It is hard for me to monitor diaries during weekdays, but I am open to any schedule others might find convenient. I thought I could start off on some stories about my own “Canadians” (sadly neglected, but their stories are definitely deserving of dusting off.)

Proposed open thread hosting schedule (subject to change):

May 2 – klompendanser’s Canadians

May 9 – klompendanser will come up with a title and subject

any volunteers?

Some housekeeping issues — while I have been able to accept requests for membership in the group, there are some issues with my sending out invitations I have a message from the help desk folks that this is an issue on their to do list to resolve, but I know they have had their hands full with various bug fixes. Also, if you have a story to publish but don’t see how to publish it to the group, please be sure to use one of the tags I have used in this diary…I will try to republish to the group ASAP. It used to be really easy to change members publishing permissions under DK4 and DK5, but I’m not seeing it for DK6, and hate to but the help desk again so soon.
