Request for help! [1]

I am writing to request some financial help and to update on my ongoing saga of getting back to a financially stable situation.

Since 2024, in addition to an ongoing search for projects in my field of some years (and normal jobs as well), I have been exploring and more recently actively pursuing work in a newly emerging field — using your training and skills to train AI agents in very specific fields, such as science, engineering, math, law, and medicine.

I've made a few thousand dollars over about 6 months of nearly full-time work. This is in addition to the 60 hours or so I spend every week applying to jobs, looking for openings, talking with recruiters, and (infrequently) being interviewed.

This is obviously not enough to actually pay my fixed costs and I have been carefully choosing bills to pay and others to delay; the absolutely critical bills for me are electricity, phone, and internet, and buying food for my cats.

I have been working towards (and counting on) getting onboarded on a better project for several months now, but the start date has been pushed back into the first week of April.

I'm going to lose my gas on Friday if I don't pay them $450, and the contents of my storage space (which has some completely irreplaceable stuff) will be auctioned on April 2 if I don't pay them $575. My car also no longer works reliably and I think it's likely to be $350 to fix it (that's an educated guess based on the symptoms). The total I need to not have this fail is $1375.

If this project kicks in on schedule, I will be able to pay my mortgage without an issue, although it will be about a week late. For right now, I have about 2 weeks of cat food on hand before that becomes a problem, so that will hopefully be OK too.

This was NOT the diary I was hoping to write today, but at some level having that critical project suddenly delayed amounts to yet another bad joke by the Universe. (In other news, I'm in the process of hopefully being recruited for two really interesting jobs that are perfect fits for everything I've done in multiple fields combined since about 1988. The sound you hear right now is me knocking on wood as hard as I can...This is honestly the closest I've come to a reasonable chance at a successful application in at least six months.)

Finally, I can't even begin to express how valuable all the help, sympathy, and really good advice I've gotten from everyone here has been in getting me through at least to this point. I am so lucky to know all of you and the Daily Kos community as a whole. Finding this place way back in 2004 is one of the best things that ever happened to me on a whole lot of levels. Thanks. You have made an immense difference in my life, and I will never forget it.
