Real Estate Update

Many of you know we have been in the process of selling our farm. We lived there for 50 years, then our kids did for 8 years. We now live in a condo, and it was time to ease back from the responsibilities of ownership and accompanying maintenance, since we are now in our late 80s.

I won’t be too detailed, but I’ll share the general progress. The farmhouse is 150 years old, so we were aware it would take some preparation for a sale. We thought it would take at least 3 months to be ready, so we contacted an agent, someone who we had previously contacted. Somehow an early description was disseminated. Two couples went to see it, unaccompanied. This was a glitch, for which apologies were given.

Each couple loved it and put in a bid. Many advantages accrue to this speedy resolution, and we accepted one bid. It is in escrow now. There’s an old adage in pool: “Anything can happen.” We are hopeful. Clearing out a home occupied for 58 years has been a challenge, and is ongoing.

The paperwork has been incredible. Disclosures on a newer tract home are one thing; those on a 150 year old home are quite another. My thanks to belinda ridgewood and maggiejean for taking over my Sunday diaries last week.

Y’all may be involved in a real estate transaction sooner or later. My pro-tip for living: Fix every home problem as it occurs, and Don’t accumulate possessions.
