The Ice Man Commeth [1]

Use anger wisely. Easier said than done. Thought I would do some dishes while catching the news on MSNOW. I didn’t know that ICE agents just murdered a woman in cold blood in Minnesota. The TV announcer warned the video might be disturbing. I watched anyway. He shot her right in the face while she was driving away. I had seen more gruesome scenes in gangster movies, but this was real. The more I thought about it, the angrier I got. Disturbing is an understatement. I was infuriated. The mayor said we must channel our anger so as not to give Trump more excuses to bring in Ice agents. My mind was racing with anti-ICE protest signs: No ICE, Crush Ice, Ban Ice, No Secret Pol-ICE, You’re as cold as ICE.

Suddenly I realized the last one was from the song, “Cold as Ice” by the rock group Foreigner. I played the song. I changed the lyrics. My angry parody expresses my fury and contempt of Trump. I imagine I am yelling at him. Thank you for letting me share these lyrics with you.

The ICE Man Commeth

You’ve been told of ICE

You’re willing to sacrifice our blood.

You never take advice

Someday you’ll pay the price, I pray

I’ve seen it before.

It happened at Kent State

There was blood and gore,

Maybe a cruel mistake

But seven students were shot,

Their lives taken away

You know ICE does the same, and someday you’ll pay!

You only care about gold

And the power to prey

On helpless citizens,

But someday you’ll pay.

You know you were told that ICE

Shot her dead today

Her only crime that took her life

She tried to drive away.

You want your own Gestapo

To be your secret police

Spreading violence and terror

On our city streets.

You know that you are cold as ICE

You are heartless and cruel

When you roll the dice,

People die, you damn fool.

Cold as ice
