Colorado State Open Thread, November 10, 2025 [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2025-11-10 An active week it has been. We can have a discussion on the elections that happened last Tuesday. I hope many of you were able to not only vote but to help friends and neighbors be part of the turnout that dumped the Aurora city council members that supported Mike Coffman and the Republican anti-American agenda that were claiming Aurora had been invaded by MS-13 and other gangs. I hope you were part of the group that dumped the Jeffco and Dougco school boards in favor of Democratic candidate control. Colorado Politics.com has stories on all of these results. Colorado Sun.com has reports on some of the various referenda on ballot initiatives. I’m sure you have links you can share. Looking forward to the future, all of our Democratic national legislators, per the Colorado Sun, are standing against the Democratic capitulation to the Republicans to reopen the government without an ironclad guarantee that healthcare subsidies will be extended at least through the 2026 year. I was worried when I saw that a former governor had joined the group of Democratic Senators who had joined the group, but fortunately Senator Hickenlooper was still standing strong against the agreement, realizing all it promises is a “vote” to extend the subsidies without any kind of agreement with the Republicans or Trump about actually extending them or taking one cent away from the trillion dollar tax cut given to billionaires in that horrific bill. Many communities held their Veterans Day activities over the weekend, but for those who recall the actual reason for why Veterans Day is observed on the 11th Day of the 11th Month (actually the 11th hour of that day). veterans, active duty military personnel and national guard members here in Colorado will be able to go into state parks tomorrow for free (as well as those with the special state park license plates, who can do it any day of the year). Government offices and banks and such will be closed per usual. I will probably still stop by my mailbox out of habit. For more on the holiday, please read en.wikipedia.org/… and drop them some coin to help keep them operating. I have no doubt how the Commander in Thief will actually feel about the day, but I wonder if he will actually bother attending any ceremonies. I doubt he would like or care about poppies. These are mostly yellow instead of red, but she does grow some red ones in here. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving. I have given a check to my food bank and I will be hosting a meal for any folks who don’t have family or other place to go for the holiday meal. I will be hosting my sister and if she’s the only one to join me, it will be a feast extravaganza. The menu is set to be a beer can turkey cooked on my smoker out back with roasted root veggies, homemade cranberry sauce (I think she may want some jellied sauce too, so we may have some of that), gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, apple crumb pie with ice cream and/or whipped cream, maybe a pumpkin pie, maybe some green beans or other green stuff to try and be a bit healthier, if we have company, whatever they may want to bring, who knows? I’ve always enjoyed this meal and enjoyed the leftovers so much I feel like it’s not Thanksgiving if I don’t have leftovers later. If there is anyone out there needing company on Thanksgiving, I do have couches and even one or two beds available if you want to come up to Estes. If you want to stay over, you can even see Santa on Friday. I can still see a little bit of powdered sugar on top of the 13’ers out of my office window in Rocky Mountain National Park but I’m hoping for some real snow by the time we get out of November and into December. The resorts need the snow for their happy holiday visitors, the bears need a reason to go into hibernation, I want a reason to fill my birdfeeders and everything is so dry. We need some moisture to cover up the ground and start soaking in for the winter and eventually next spring. I look forward to your comments. The floor is yours...
