Asian Bounty

A few weeks ago we wondered where to get Chow Fun noodles, which we always used to have in stock. Google supplied the name of Asia Mart. I drove many miles and found it. Expansive store, where indeed I found and bought the noodles. Jck confirmed it is the premier Asian market in the city.

My visiting daughter expressed a desire to go, so we made our way there again. OMG what fun. We poked around and picked up everything that caught our fancy. Prices are reasonable. I mentioned this on KTK and belinda suggested I report our bounty on today’s KTK.

Green Onion pie

Japanese Udon noodles

Rice vinegar

Black Sesame Oil

Green Curry paste

Fish sauce (We selected the one without a cancer warning)

Hoisin Sauce

Butter Coconut Biscuits from Singapore

Vegetarian Black Vinegar

Cloudy Sake

Young Tamarind Leaves in Brine

Daughter bought the tamarind, knowing nothing about them. Today I found out: Young tamarind leaves are primarily used as a natural souring agent in Filipino cooking, adding a delicate tartness to dishes. Also Brewed as a natural tea known for its antioxidant properties. How will she use them?

We have visited Vietnam and Malaysia so these condiments are familiar, but it’s wonderful to find a local source that is such an enjoyable venue. Although it was crowded, we were the only non-Asians in the store.

Are any of these in your cooking repertoire? Nowadays everything is available on Amazon, but it’s enlightening to see them all in one place.
