[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2025-10-07 Proposal: For the duration of any and all Gov’t Shutdowns, all elected and appointed Gov’t Officials in the Executive and Legislative Branches of our government shall have their annual Gov’t salary docked on a daily pro rata basis according to the following schedule: For the first week of the Shutdown, salaries shall be docked at twice the daily pro rata rate; For the second week of the Shutdown, salaries shall be docked at thrice the daily pro rata rate; For the third week of the Shutdown, salaries shall be docked at 4 times the daily pro rata rate; For the fourth week of the Shutdown, salaries shall be docked at 5 times the daily pro rata rate; For the fifth week of the Shutdown, salaries shall be docked at 6 times the daily pro rata rate; For the sixth week of the Shutdown, salaries shall be docked at 7 times the daily pro rata rate. Should the Shutdown continue beyond 6 weeks, all pay will be docked at the rate of thrice the daily pro rata rate from the beginning of the seventh week for the duration of the Shutdown. If the Shutdown continues beyond the sixth week, upon the beginning of the seventh week of the Shutdown, negotiations shall begin for said Gov’t Officials in the Executive & Legislative Branches to have either that Gov’t Official’s spouse, or eldest male child over the age of 12, to be transported to and lodged in the Dry Tortugas for twice the length of time as said Shutdown lasts—each Gov’t family unit shall decide which person will be selected. In any event, the selected family member shall be collected and transported by the end of 30 days after day 1 of week seven of the Shutdown, with details for the collection and transport to be determined during said negotiations. When the Shutdown has ended, the total amount of all the docked-pay for all the Gov't Officials shall be divided into 2 equal parts: The first equal part will be re-divided into 3 equal parts and one of those 3 parts will then go to each of these 3 organizations--The American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, and the Goodwill Industries; The second equal part will be used to offset the costs involved with the Dry Tortugas transport and lodgings of the spouse or the first-born sons of the Gov't Officials. Should the part of the proposal regarding the spouse and first born sons not come to pass, then the second equal part will be divided equally betwixt the 3 charities mentioned above. The Gov't Officials involved in the pay docking, and their relatives, give-up their right to any form of redress under the First Amendment; as such redress would nullify the reason for and impact of the proposal. Also, the same Gov't Officials foreswear any results from any attempt by second- or third-party organizations, groups, or individuals that come forward in future to redress the results of this proposal. (This Proposal is put forth under the concept of Gov’t Accountability and Responsibility; if the Legislative and Executive Branches of the Gov’t “put-a-hurting” onto the nation, such as a Shutdown, by either their actions, or inactions, then they should be held accountable for and take responsibility for that “hurting”, and subsequently suffer appropriate consequences for all of the negative aspects that befall the nation at their hands).
