Kitchen Table Kibitzing September 28, 2025 [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2025-09-28 Forever is a long, long time. Live Long and Prosper? Mankind has long wished to live forever, generally in some form of Life After Death™. The Egyptians carried this concept to the extreme, but most religions have some aspect of it. Based on recent polling, the percentage of Americans who believe in life after death is in the range of 70% to over 80%. No matter how horrible life has been for them, it promises to be just great for eternity. Another way of approaching this is to extend one’s life on this plane of existence. A recent Guardian article covered the history and future of these efforts. China’s Xi Jinping and Russia’s Vladimir Putin recently discussed the potential for organ replacements to allow them (and the billionaire tech bros) to live to 150 and longer. Experimenters a few years ago used techniques to surgically give young blood to old mice, and they were rejuvenated. Similar techniques are around now and are being marketed. “If the goal is to stop ageing and plateau, or start to gradually become younger, I would just say that, right now, we don’t have it. But if you invest correctly, your time and efforts and resources, we will have it soon." One hope is that AI would help to achieve their goals. Coincidentally after reading the Guardian article I read a story in the New Yorker called Prompt Diagnosis: If A.I. Can Diagnose Patients, What Are Doctors For?. The consensus is that AI is already pretty close; accurate and much quicker. At my age I’m not at all enthusiastic about living forever, or even for that much longer. Do these experimenters ever consider what kind of a world in which they’ll live forever? What say y’all? It’s KTK, so I’ll share a recipe for a salmon sauce that is so good: 1 cup sour cream (or yogurt) 3 tsp Dijon mustard 1 chopped garlic clove 1/2 lemon, juiced 1 lemon, zested 1 tsp salt 1 tsp sugar fresh dill, chopped (use as much as you like, but use fresh) Stir everything together, pour over your perfectly cooked salmon.
