Caturday Pootie Diary: Inscrutable [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2025-08-30 “Excuse you,” I said, walking back into the family room. Freddie was on the arm of the couch, licking the outside of the treat bag that I had left on the table. “Treats,” he purred, licking. I gently grabbed his face and pushed him back until he had no choice but to step off the arm. Shooing him further away, I sat between him and the table with the treats. “You’re such a weirdo,” I said, picking the bag up. “With treats?” he asked, giving me his best, most hopeful feline smile. Laughing, I shook a few out for him. A gentle reminder of how we do things: 🐱🐶🐦 Do not troll the diary. If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul. Please do share pics of your fur kids! If you have health/behavior issues with your pets, feel free to bring it to the community. Pooties are cats; Woozles are dogs. Birds... are birds! Peeps are people. Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. If you’re having “issues” with another Kossack, keep it “out there.” This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly. There are some pics we never post: snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated. If we alert you to it, please remember that we do have phobic peeps who react strongly to them. If you keep posting banned pics...well then...the Tigress will have to take matters in hand. Or, paw. I watched Freddie eat his small pile of treats, grateful as always that he was too polite or too passive to just tear open the bag with his teeth. He’s the only cat I’ve ever had who won’t. Freddie finished his treats and immediately stood to leave. “Seriously?” I said, incredulous. Ignoring me, he jumped to the floor and settled under the coffee table, on top of a pile of shoes. “Why do you do that?” I asked him. “He looked over at me. “I like treats,” he answered. I shook my head. “Lie on the shoes. That can’t be comfortable.” He closed his eyes and rested his head on his paws. “Like shoes,” he said, sleepily. “Oh, well, that answers everything,” I said, rolling my eyes. "Are you hungry?” I asked my sleeping cat. He immediately popped awake and stood from the pile of shoes, then trotted off toward the kitchen. “Take that as a ‘yes,’” I muttered, following him. A few minutes later, he was happily and loudly eating his gushy food while I prepared his insulin syringe. Once it was done, I left him to his meal. Freddie ate quickly, then rejoined me on the couch for his medicine and treat. I was reading on my phone and ignored him for a minute so I could finish. “Why do you do that?” he asked. I looked over at him, eyebrows raised. He cocked his head toward my phone. I looked at it, then back at him. “It’s a small computer,” I explained. “It connects me to the internet and the rest of the world.” Freddie gave a sharp nod. “Human nonsense,” he said. “You know that’s just a shadow, right?” I asked, watching Freddie as he watched his own shadow on the wall. “Shh, human. Hunting.” “It’s literally you.” Without warning, he dove at the wall, hitting it with his shoulder. “Are you ok?” I asked, starting to rise from my seat. “Got it,” he said, satisfied. “Why do you do that?” I laughed. I dropped onto my bed and lay back on the pillows with a sigh. It had been a long day at the end of a long week and I was ready to get about forty winks. The mattress dipped as Freddie jumped up to join me. He walked directly to me and climbed onto my chest. His paws rested on my collarbones and his face was only a few inches from my own. “You going to sleep?” he demanded. “Yep! It’s bedtime. There’s plenty of room for you,” I tempted. “Why do you sleep for so long?” he asked, frowning. “It’s not safe.” I shook my head. “I keep telling you, there’s no predators in this house. It’s perfectly safe.” “No predators but me,” he said, looking annoyed. “Right!” I said, quickly. “That’s what I meant. But you won’t hurt me.” He thought about it a little too long. “I won’t hurt you,” he agreed, finally. “Because you love me,” I added, rubbing his head. “Because you feed me,” he purred. I woke up about seven hours later and opened my eyes, blinking in the light from the window. Freddie was crouched next to me, staring at my face. I started. “Why?” I barked. He stood and stretched. “You made it another night. That’s good. Come feed me,” he added, walking to the end of the bed. “Why do you stare at me like a creeper?” I called after him. “Human!” he yelled from the doorway. “Breakfast!” Grumbling, I got up. I brushed him while he ate his treats. When he finished, he stood and walked just out of reach of the brush, then settled down again. I rolled my eyes. “I don’t know why you’re so obsessed with me,” Freddie said, twisting around to lick the brush marks from his fur. “I don’t know why you do half the things you do,” I shot back. “Just cat stuff,” he said, tucking his paws under his body. “And human nonsense,” I added. “So much nonsense,” he agreed. Happy Caturday, Peeps! It’s funny how well we all live together despite being so different.
