Kitchen Table Kibitzing August 24, 2025 [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2025-08-24 This graph proves…….something. Supply Chain I wrote a number of diaries for several years about inflation. It was rising, but slowly. Supply and demand were fairly balanced. Pretty much, stores had everything you wanted, and if they didn’t, Amazon did. Then Covid hit, in January, 2020. China cut back its production of goods. It turned out that the global supply chain had been made lean by outsourcing to lower cost suppliers (and countries). I remember the stories of ship backups in L A. ports, like hundreds of ships. Then the scarcities began to hit home. Toilet paper, the most mundane product, became the most highly valued. Shelves were empty. Locally, I couldn’t find any pasta anywhere. When goods finally did appear, in reduced quantities, there was hoarding. The situation has gradually improved. What prompted my thoughts on the supply crisis was seeing the full shelves in all the stores I frequent, from grocery stores to retail goods. Even our local European Store, which stocks all imported foods, is full and thriving. Are y’all seeing any shortages in your stores? Do you think the supply crisis could happen again? “US Inflation Rate is at 2.70%, compared to 2.67% last month and 2.89% last year. This is lower than the long term average of 3.28%.” Does that statistic seem valid to you? I see prices on some individual items double. This all could happen again. Are you going to get Covid shots? I know I am.
