PWB Peeps: Morning Routine [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2025-08-15 Happy Friday, Peeps! Those of you who get weekends off, congrats! We all know the joy of an anticipated treat. Today, I want to discuss how our furred and feathered friends also anticipate — how they get into routines and woe betide the hoomin who deviates by a second! But First: A gentle reminder of how we do things: 🐱🐶🐦 Do not troll the diary. If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul. Please do share pics of your fur kids! If you have health/behavior issues with your pets, feel free to bring it to the community. Pooties are cats; Woozles are dogs. Birds... are birds! Peeps are people. Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. If you’re having “issues” with another Kossack, keep it “out there.” This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly. There are some pics we never post: snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos or videos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated. If we alert you to it, please remember that we do have phobic peeps who react strongly to them. If you keep posting banned pics...well then...the Tigress will have to take matters in hand. Or, paw. My trio of pooties each has her own routine, meaning my own has to be woven in between this. And clearly I’m not the only hoomin with this issue. First, there’s the morning wake up: Clock time has NO relevance Toffee is alpha cat and gets the bed until about 3am, when she demands food, so I get up and give her kibbles in the kitchen, then shut the bedroom door against her. But that just allows Bijou to have her place on the bed, where she’s mostly quiet until about 5am, when she starts in. So I’m usually up between 5:30 and 6am, when the real food routine starts. Kibble (two different ones) plus wet food for Bijou (she’s closed into bedroom so Toffee can’t get it) and I’m staggering out to bring wet food and kibble to the ferals waiting by the front and back doors… only then do I get my coffee and toast — but wait! Bijou must have her lick of butter from my finger: Has to be my pinkie; she’s very suspicious of my other fingers. 😄 Meanwhile, Toffee has re-entered the bedroom and demands I make my bed so she has all “her” blankets to sleep on. “I’m WAITING...” the bed isn’t made, hoomin.” And she demands the cat flap be opened so she can check things out (Bijou joins her in this, after the butter — none of my cats learned to use the flap. They wait for me to open and close). Bijou: “6:30am and the flap has NOT been opened, hoomin!” And Speckles, knowing herself to be third in line, waits for the others to leave the living/dining room, then starts butting me with her front paws so that I will either sit in the recliner for her to have lap time, or play with the cat wand (she has no chance at it when the others are present). Same with the window — she gets it if the others are gone. Speckles — “carpe fenestra, or something like that.” All this before I’m finished a piece of toast and a couple cups of coffee! And thus the long day, full of such routines, has started. I know I’m not the only one who has friends in bed: Nor the only one who has to observe feeding routines: Apparently it’s Self Serve... Not mine, but I must always leave dripping faucet for feral cats and for birds Since the morning routine is so complex, I will leave the rest of the day for another diary. Do your pets have routines?
