Promises vs Reality [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2025-04-30 My government is cruel, capricious, vengeful, disloyal, destructive, and short-sighted because the president we elected is cruel, capricious, vengeful, disloyal, destructive, and short-sighted. Is that what we sought when we elected Trump? Assuming Americans elect the president they want, is that what Americans value or have become? A republican majority in congress is desperate to please their leader, cutting $880 billion from the federal budget to fund additional, unnecessary tax cuts for the rich. Most of those cuts come from programs that benefitted the beleaguered middle class or, God help them, the poor. In other words, our elected representatives are ignoring the needs of the voters who elected them and millions of US citizens will suffer needlessly. For those taking notes, Trump is doing the opposite of what he promised in his campaign. Whatever good you were hoping for, expect the opposite. Not long ago, we were better than this. Far from making the US "great again", Trump is presiding over its decline and degradation. Moreover, he is thereby elevating China to replace us as world leader. Dividing peoples and diminishing democracy is Trump's hallmark and legacy. So gird yourselves for inflation, recession, and the derisive laughter of the rest of the world. If we remain inactive, hopeless and deliberately unaware, in a few more years the world may suffer far worse consequences for our immense 2024 election failure.
