ADAPTIVE INDOMITABLE UKRAINE: Christmas "Vertep" With a War Time Twist Comes to the Frontline [1]

In one of the clearest breaks with the Russian world and Rusky Mir in general, the Ukrainians by law now officially celebrate Christmas on December 25th just like most of Western Europe and much of the world. For Ukrainians, the Vertep is the quintessential celebration of Christmas … amidst the general merrymaking, the re-enactment of the Christian nativity scene and other celebratory pantomime and plays.

Putin’s baleful war has not stopped the Ukrainians from celebrating the Vertep. Bombs or no bombs Vertep goes on. Indomitable Ukraine. Even on one of the hottest spots on the long battle trace, especially on the Siversky direction, the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces found time to get their Vertep on. The 10th Mountain has been in the fight since 2015 in Donbas defending positions around Marinka and later defending positions around Popasna. Now they’re defending the Siversk area. They have seen and faced some of the worst that the Russian can dish out. And have given back just as good. They are still at it:

But in the middle of all this hard fighting, Ukrainians will be Ukrainians. Without a doubt. And in Ukraine war or no war the Vertep goes on … with a special twist reflecting the peculiar circumstances of the moment:
