He was sustained and resurrected by the media’ and is the ‘best hope of a dying cable TV business.’ I’ve been arguing these very points for years. The media, with special attention going to the New York Times, was directly complicit in helping Trump slither into the White House in 2016. The corporate media then did it again in 2024. The corporate Right mainstream media has enabled and continued to use Trump to create the stories THEY want to present. To generate clickbait rather than reporting honestly on the stories that are happening. False equivalent and ‘both sideism’ journalism have ruled. If Thomas Paine or Alexander Hamilton were still alive, the collusion and outright cowardice of American corporate media would kill them all over again. The media took a criminal felon, serial sex offender, violent insurrectionist and treasonous pathological liar and made almost half of the country believe it was the Democrats who couldn’t be trusted. They made a man whose bluster, incitement, deep seated ignorance, and non-stop lies kill to include hundreds of thousands during COVID while nearly destroying the US economy on his first go around as the one Americans can believe. Trump now seems ready to start wars with Denmark, Mexico, Panama, and Iran despite having been presented as the ‘anti-war’ candidate. But he does, of course, have the ‘concepts of a plan.’ Does the media care? And the DNC, who has a long unique History of Pulling Defeat From the Jaws of Victory - did it again. That the Democrats turned themselves from the long recognized supporters for and party of America’s working class to the coastal elite was a remarkable transformation. The corporate mainstream media may now regret what they wished for since enabling and pandering to a wanna be autocrat does not provide protection from a subsequent autocracy. All the media, and American voters, needed to do was read History. But, of course, Trump is also where the money is. Only Trump can generate endless cable TV stories, podcasts and so many books. Competency, as represented by Biden, doesn’t sell. Outrage, lunacy, absurd performance politics, and deadly dangerous delusion is how to sell books and generate media numbers. Former Trump loyalists like John Bolton who knew it all but kept it a secret because he wanted to sell a book got repeated interviews rather than indictments. ‘Never Trump’ failed for the same reasons as did the Democrats. That is, support needs to be generated for what is needed now and what can be rather than what is ‘not.’ Michelle Wolf was prescient when she told the collected media during Trump’s first term: “You guys are obsessed with him.
