Are you ready to see the forest for the trees?

We keep bashing our heads against a wall, hating what the world is coming to, watching the planet disintegrating, seeing egomaniacs in charge and rivers of gold flowing upward to their greedy open arms, feeling hopeless and frustrated and lonely and wondering why and how millions of people sign on to the destruction, I could go on and on. We all know the feeling when we picture say, 3,500 disposable diapers per baby per year pile up in landfills, or we realize more than 77 million people voted for Trump this year, or when we read that 1% of the world’s people own more than half of the world’s wealth. It’s that oh god, no, kind of despair. How did it come to this? Why are we so blind?

The forest is that we have abandoned community en masse.

The only thing I would add to the following essay is modern examples of people seeking community in all the wrong places, like mega-churches and the Proud Boys, showing just how desperate we seek belonging to and getting fulfillment from our fellow human beings.
