Paradox of Trump [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-12-19 Watching the GOP scurry to appease their tempestuous overlord, I have some hope that two of the largest, most non-constitutional impediments to good governance may get removed by the least responsible actor in all of American politics: the debt ceiling and the filibuster. Over the last 25 years, I can’t count how many democratic priorities that would have brought true benefits to people’s lives have been blocked by one of those two things. How much stasis and short-term decision-making has burdened our political system? And of all people, that jerk is going to be the one that is willing and able to snap his finger and make legislators just… change things. I know nothing has been said about the filibuster, but I can very easily see the same dynamic playing out. Who knows, but a boy can dream.
