Kitchen Table Kibitzing: Holiday Decorating [1]

Last Thursday evening, I looked at the clock at 5:20 waiting for 5:30 to roll around for publishing of my KTK column. I picked up my book and started reading. The next time I looked up it was 8:15! TIme to walk the dog. It wasn’t until I returned at around 8:40 that I realized I had missed KTK. Sorry folks for not showing up.

That’s been happening to me a. lot lately — getting caught up in a book and missed something on my schedule. I’m going to have to set alarms.

Now, on to decorating for the holidays.

Tuesday I pulled out my tall fake Christmas tree to set it up before the kids come over to decorate. Plugged the lights in and the set around the middle was not working. I had to go to two hardware stores to find a set of white lights to fill in the hole. Plus an extension cord which has several outlets.



Pulled the lights out of the box and they have white wiring while the other strands on the tree are green. Just finished gerry rigging all the lights and the white really shows up. Hoping when we get all the ornaments on tonight (Wednesday) the wires won’t be as obvious.

Finished the rest of the decorating — A gold wreath for the door; a white flowering plant for the front steps; two large nutcrackers on the table; reindeer candles; gold candlesticks. There are several things that I am not putting out this year because there is just no room for them.

Suffice it to say that I am having a very difficult time being in the Christmas mood this year. It just brings us closer to January 20.

In the spirit of giving, for those of us who no longer subscribe to WAPO or NYT. The Des Moines Register could use our support. A subscription is $25 for two years. As most everyone is probably aware, they are being sued over the Selzer poll released just before election day which showed Harris leading in Iowa.
