The U.S. needs Progressive News Sources [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-12-03 The U.S. needs Progressive News Sources We can thank President Bill Clinton for enabling the takeover of new sources by right wing oligarchs and their companies. “Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.” H. Truman Freedom of speech in print, only applies to those who own the printing presses; this applies to electronic media as well. In December 2024, ownership of AM & FM radio stations is dominated by right wing media monopolies. The TV channels are also dominated by corporate media empires where the ability to produce revenue is paramount, not the dissemination of facts and actual events. R. Murdoc’s media is a good example of media used to support a social agenda. From the start, there has never been anything but an advertising slogan “of fair and balanced” to deflect from their intentional and obvious bias. I would actually like to have a source of media that actually displays what has happened and why. As Harry Truman said “I never did give anybody hell. I just told the truth and they thought it was hell.” Just the facts would be a good place to start. News biased towards progress rather than regression is what is needed.
