[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-12-02 Do not look to me to defend the pardoning of Hunter Biden, that is not what this post is about, but it also is. There was a lot of talk about Weaponization of the Government by Biden. It was bullshit. Why do I say that. Biden kept Trump's FBI pick, Christopher Wray for Biden's entire term. Biden allowed the Trump appointed Special Counsel, John Durham's investigation to proceed without interference. Durham wrote in the report a thank you to Merrick Garland for "permitting our inquiry to proceed independently. Were there investigations into Trump? Yes. The New York case was a state case and Trump was found guilty. The Federal Cases were stalled and never went to trial. "But they raided Trump's home" you might say. Because he had classified documents and refused to return them. Even Trump doesn't deny that, he just claims he unclassified them before he left...somehow. And he refused to return them, many times, after denying he had them. So the only way to get those documents back, which contained some documents at the highest level of classification, was to have someone go get them. Because Trump refused to return them, or even admit he had them. Trump will disband Jack Smith's investigation on Day 1. Biden let Durham keep working. Trump is trying to replace the person he picked with a loyalist. Biden let a Trump appointee run the FBI his entire term. Biden allowed his own son to be convicted of a crime he could have pardoned him for immediately, a crime literally no one else had been taken to trial for in the history of the law...lying on a gun purchase form about substance abuse use. Biden did all of this to convince people the investigations against Trump were legitimate. They were fair. And it didn't work. So now, seeing Trump is going to try to put Kash Patel in as head of the FBI, a person who Trump's own AG, Bill Barr said he would resign before he allowed him to be picked last time...Biden decided to pardon his son back to 2014. Because otherwise Trump could re-open closed investigations Trump's own justice department closed, because they were bullshit, and Trump could order his folks to put Biden's last living son in whatever jail he wanted once sentencing came, almost certainly causing another relapse. Do I think what Biden did was good for the country? Nope. But it's not my son, and Biden did the right thing the whole way, let Trump's pick stay head of the FBI, let Durham's special counsel continue, etc...and it didn't matter.
