New Realities, Since Everything Changed (a list that will grow) [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-12-01 Like all of you, I have not stopped, since November 5th, trying to grasp the overwhelming breadth of things that changed forever that day. I read essays, and comments after the essays, to hear others talk about things that haven't occurred to me yet, because too many things already have occurred to me, and I can only think about so much each day. Therefore... This Daily Kos post is going to be an ever-growing list, that I will put up probably a few times each week, when the number of new realities added to the list gets large enough. Comments will help me grow the list faster. I will add things suggested in the comments to the list itself in the next update. Newer things will always be at the top. If some Daily Kos staffer wants to take over this little project, that's fine. But I don't mind doing it. -------------------- added December 1, 2024: From Timothy Snyder : The Federal government might become so hostile to blue states that they will secede, and form a commonwealth with Canada and Mexico, which will be larger and much more economically powerful than the remaining red post-USA. The economy might suffer a blow worse than COVID in 2020, because 150 million or more Americans will either be actively shunning the economy, or will be so fearful, angry and disgusted with those who have taken over the economy that they will have no desire to buy stuff and participate in what was formerly called "public life". Home schooling will flip, becoming the domain of progressives, not evangelicals anymore, if the schools get controlled by the far right. Canada will be the only large, affluent, stable democracy, and probably the only NATO member, in the western hemisphere. A "Radio Free US" will probably be needed, which will broadcast from Canada, and maybe Mexico, probably on short wave radio.
